Communication is so important in my life, and hopefully yours too! I am the treasurer of my school's photography club. The other officers and myself are in the middle of starting our first fundraiser of the year and confusion in communicating almost drove it right in to the ground! We all stepped back and acknowledged the fact that we weren't communicating well and have a meeting set up for tomorrow to set everything straight. Fingers crossed that we pull of the fundraiser without a hitch! 1) A lot of people think that communicating is talking, but an even more important element to communicating is LISTENING! I know it probably sounds really cheesy, but it's true! Everyone has to be willing to listen to others' ideas with an open mind. Leave all your judgments at the door and you will get so much more out of the discussion. 2) If you say you will do something, do it. People have to be able to rely on you. Make sure you don't bite off more than you can chew, but if you do, you need to ask someone to help you finish the job. 3) Don't fall off the grid without warning. Today, we aren't always available to sit down and talk. While that is the highest priority, it just isn't always an option. This means that we resort to video chats, email chains, text messaging, or long phone calls. If your group is depending on reaching you through media, you need to be available when you say you will be. 4) I have a REALLY short temper most days. You might also. Tempers and good communication just don't mix. I know it's a huge challenge, but really make an effort to keep your eyes in your head and non-productive words in your mouth. Remember that your group is all working towards a mutual goal.

How very insightful of you (and brave!) in being so honest about your own challenges when it comes to communication! Good writing, Meghan :)
