An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind. 2/26/13
This quote's themes are friendship and worldly matters. "An eye for an eye" means paying back hatred with hatred. This means that if we hold grudges with everyone, the people of world will no longer be united. Jesus said, "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." So we shouldn't take "an eye for an eye" but rather "forgive as your father in Heaven has forgiven you" and unite as a whole. Forgive and don't hold grudges, take care of everyone, whether you like them or not. You don't have to love every one, but treat them like they are human and with respect.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. 2/19/13
We are Christian. We consume the Eucharist. The Eucharist is God. Therefore God is within us. "Nothing is impossible with God." So whatever hurtles we faced in the past, God helped us jump. Whatever obstacles block our paths in the future, He will help us overcome. This is an important moral message because it boosts our confidence with the fact that we can overcome anything if we let whatever lies within shine brightly. Today, God will help me overcome annoying people that I face. Tomorrow, He will help me delve deeper into my upcoming Confirmation. In the future, He will be my constant companion as I enter high school. You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you stop to look fear in the face. Feb[ruary] 5 [2013]
If you always run from what you are afraid of, you will become weak, scared, and shy. However if you face you fears you will gain strength, courage, and confidence. Take reading in mass for example. In 7th grade when I first read I could barely focus, I was so nervous. Then I read this year, and it was ok. When I read for the third time, I realized I wasn't nervous at any time during the mass. 2 weeks ago I actually volunteered to read which is something I never would have imagined doing. Now I am confident about reading in Mass. Every truth has two sides. It is well to look at both before we commit ourselves to either. When you hear both sides of the story before deciding it is more justifying to both parties. When Marie* comes to me complaining about Harriet* and her friends, Marie always puts herself in a better light. Harriet will give me the other side of the story. The legal system brings both parties to court to tell their sides of the tale before judging the case. In my own life, before taking sides in an argument, I can investigate and find out who wronged whom and who might be completely unrelated to the disagreement, etc.
* Made up names* A civilization flourishes when people plant trees under which they will never sit. Jan[uary] 15 [2013]
If someone has enough money to donate to the poor, hungry, or homeless, they most likely will never be in that situation. We should be green but only the next generations will relax under that "tree." If we give without asking for anything in return, you give up the "shade" so they can enjoy it and then pass it on. [What kind of society would we have if everyone followed this proverb?] We would have a giving society today, with a better world for the next generation. |
